Halloween Hair Accessories

So cute and easy to make,  these festive hair accessories can slide onto a headband, alligator clip, or any other type of hair clip – the perfect handmade accessory for little ones this Halloween!

Materials for Spider:

  • Halloween hair accessories template {DOWNLOAD PDF HERE}
  • Black Felt
  • Orange ribbon
  • 1/4″ Black grosgrain ribbon
  • 1/4″ wooden dowel
  • 2 small eyes
  • Black thread
  • 2 or more sturdy (not plastic) clips or clothes pins
  • hot glue

First we are going to curl the ribbon for the legs. You will need a wooden dowel, I’m using a 1/4″ dowel, the size of the dowel will be the size of your curl.  (You will need to cut your dowel to 12″, to 14″ long) Clip the ribbon to the dowel (any clip that will hold it and can go in oven, so no plastic), and start wrapping the ribbon tight around the dowel.

When you are at the end of the dowel or end of ribbon, hold tight in place with another clip.  Preheat oven to 250 and place ribbon wrapped dowels on cookie sheet.  Place in oven for 20 minutes.

After “baking”, let cool and unwrap.  How much fun is this?! Think of the fun you can have just curling ribbon –  next time try a different size ribbon and dowel.

Cut your spider pieces out of black felt.  You need 2 heads, 2 bodies, and 1 back.  Stitch the 2 head pieces together with black thread and glue 2 eyes.

Cut your curled ribbon in to 8 legs 1 1/2″ long or longer if you like.  Glue them to the inside of one of the body pieces ( I hot glued them).  Place the other body piece on top and stitch with black thread.

Glue the head to the body and add an orange bow for fun.

For the back we are adding a piece of felt that will become the slide  holder for the clips or head band.  First make the 2 cuts (this allows the clip to slide through).  Run your glue (I used hot glue) around the edges, NOT in center.  Place on back of spider.   How about 3 or 4 spiders on one headband…cute!

Now, let’s make a pumpkin!

Materials for Pumpkin:

  • Halloween hair accessories template {DOWNLOAD PDF HERE}
  • Orange felt
  • Green ribbon for bow
  • Orange and yellow thread
  • Hot glue

Download and print out pumpkin pattern.  Cut 2 pumpkin shapes and 1 back to make the slide.

With yellow (or any color) stitch pumpkin lines on just one pumpkin shape.

Now place the other pumpkin shape on back and stitch both shapes together with orange thread.

Glue on a bow.  For the back slide, make 2 cuts (marked on pattern) this is where your clip or headband will slide through.  Run glue (I used hot glue) around the outer edge, NOT in center.  Place on the back of your pumpkin.  This would be easy and fun to make in different sizes for a headband.

The slide you made for the back, you can easily slide a headband, bobby pin, or clip.   Have fun with the pumpkins and spiders!
