What a fun way to recycle your old magazine, by making these rosette flowers. Make an accent wreath, decorative ball or embellish a card, gift bag or gift tag…it’s hard to stop making them! Plus, you will not believe how easy they are to make.
Materials:
- Old magazine
- Tacky glue
- Hot glue
- Scissors
- Toothpick
- Paper and pencil/marker
- Small foam wreath I used 8″ ring
- Wide ribbon about 3 yard to wrap wreath
Directions:
Make a circle pattern 2″ and 3″. Tear the pages you want to use from the magazine. I like to look for bright colors and some with typed word. Start cut circles more 2″ than 3″ ( for my 8″ wreath I used about 75 circles-flowers). Let’s make rosette flowers, cut each circle into a spiral (see picture below) starting on the outside edge working to the center.
I found that a toothpick works great to give your a tight center. Start wrapping the toothpick 3 to 4 turns then add a little tacky glue and wrap some more, now pull out tooth pick.
Keep wrapping with your fingers to the center. You can adjust the tightness and this will give you different sizes. Add some hot glue to the center, and gently hold in place.
It took me a few tries to get the look of the flower I liked.
For me it was easier to wrap/glue all centers then hot glue each flower. A tip is to leave your Tacky glue in old cup upside down, that way you do not wait for the glue. Now that all rosettes are glued, I wrapped my foam wreath with ribbon. I found this wreath at Jo Ann Fabrics, I liked it because it is almost flat.
Start gluing, I did glue them close together.
Do you think this looks like it’s made from a magazine?
I had some left over rosettes…check out the other fun things I made using the rosettes!
Or cover a foam ball for a topper on a large candle holder.
