It’s so fun to make these tissue paper balls, your children are going to want to help! They can be made in any size and any color, they instantly add color and a wow factor to any party.
Materials:
- Tissue paper (larger ball 8 to 12 sheets)
- Fishing line or string
- Scissors
Directions:
Lay out and flatten the tissue paper, you will need at least 8 to 12 sheets for a large ball. With the tissue paper going long ways in front of you (it really doesn’t matter which way, it just makes a difference in size) fold up one end about 1 1/2″, and keep folding like you are making a large fan!
Now find the center by folding your fan in half, with fishing line or string (about a 8″ long so you have extra for hanging), tie in center.
Start on one side and pull up one tissue.
If you used 12 sheets of tissue, pull 6 sheets from each of these two sides. If you have 8 sheets, pull up 4 on each side, and so on!
Now just turn over the ball and pull up each sheet for this side. You now have a tissue ball, you may need to adjust some the sheets.
Find your fishing line (or string) in the ball and tie them together, with another piece of fishing line (as long as needed for hanging) loop through the string you just tied and tie the longer line on. Let’s go hang them under the large pool umbrella!
A fun way to decorate and add a lot of color!
This pink ball has rounded edges (cut before pulling sheets) looking like a large flower. For a birthday party I made 2 dozen pink and purple balls (different sizes) and hung them from the trees!
You can shape the ends of the tissue “fan”, before pull the sheets for a different look.
You can make them smaller by cutting the tissue! For these small half balls, I cut one sheet of tissue into 3 equal strips, stacked them, folded, tied and only pulled one side!!
Did you know you can iron tissue! With the iron set on low, no steam, and iron…you can recycle, used tissue paper and make beautiful tissue balls!!
I only recently learnt how to make these. Thank you for sharing your tips on making different size and style versions. When I made mine I accidentally picked up crepe paper instead of tissue paper but it still worked for larger ones.
